Kimberly Salazar

Bio

Kimberly Salazar is a research assistant at the Urban Institute, where she focuses on improving access and success for parenting students in higher education. A summa cum laude graduate from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in sociology, Salazar's research there focused on the social safety net and racial equity in CalWORKs reforms and how CalWORKs welfare-to-work programs impact postsecondary education opportunities. She has served as UC Berkeley’s liaison to the CalWORKs system in Alameda County and was awarded the Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Support Award. Salazar is also a parent advisor for Ascend at the Aspen Institute, where she contributes her lived experience to improving policies and advocacy for student parents, and a Raise the Barr alumna. She is undertaking a master's degree in public policy at UCLA.
