Bio

Sheron Gittens is a recent graduate from the University of Michigan, where she earned a second master's degree in social work while raising her 3-year-old daughter. As a dedicated educator and teacher trainer, with a background in international education, Sheron was awarded the Anti-Racism Fund Individual Student Project Grant to create "Dialogue Beyond Discomfort," a workshop series designed to equip participants with the skills to tackle challenging conversations about bias and racism. This initiative aimed to foster a safe space where participants could critically examine their biases and develop effective communication strategies across various identities, contributing to social justice and promoting racial equity. Beyond her work on anti-racism, Sheron delved into the challenges faced by student caregivers at the University of Michigan, conducting research and presenting her findings to key stakeholders. Her comprehensive report highlighted the obstacles student caregivers encounter in higher education and offered actionable insights to address issues of access and equity. Currently, Sheron is a holistic health educator and psychotherapist, weaving together mental health, nutrition, and education to support individuals from underrepresented communities. She is devoted to social justice and aspires to create innovative, evidence-based solutions to improve health and educational outcomes. Sheron is passionate about tackling complex social issues, and her mission is to promote equity, inclusivity, and meaningful change at both the individual and institutional levels.
