OSU Community Chat: A Three Generation Approach: Holistic Opportunities for Student Parent Success in Intergenerational on Campus Housing

The Madonna Program at Trinity Woods focuses on holistic student parent support for the whole family. This program, run by Mount Mary University, is a trailblazing opportunity for student parents because it includes both housing and case management for each of the students in the program. Topics for this presentation include the following:

  • Student population demographics within the context of Mount Mary University, a small, private, liberal Arts, HSI and MSI in Southern Wisconsin.
  • Types of support granted to students both on campus (tutoring services, additional financial services, campus navigation support and more) as well as support from the case manager with off campus support services (finding medical providers, state/government benefits, post-graduation housing and more)
  • The challenges and lessons learned with creating a multigenerational living community. Our community is for the student population and their children AND is within a larger community which includes the School Sisters of Notre Dame (the founding order of Mount Mary) and community members who are 55+.
  • Ideas and information sharing about creating similar programs on other campuses in support of student parents.
